Gautam Shantilal Adani (born 24 June 1962) is an Indian billionaire industrialist and philanthropist. He is the chairman and founder of the Adani Group, an Ahmedabad-based multinational conglomerate involved in port development and operations in India. Adani is also the president of the Adani Foundation, which is primarily led by his wife, Priti Adani. As of 16 July 2022, with a net worth of US$112.6 billion according to Forbes and Bloomberg Billionaires Index, he is the richest person in India and Asia and the 4th richest person in the world.

Adani was born on 24 June 1962 in a Gujarati Jain family to Shantilal and Shanti Adani in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He has 7 siblings and his parents had migrated from the town of Tharad in the northern part of Gujarat. His father was a small textile merchant. He was educated at Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya school in Ahmedabad. He enrolled for a bachelor's degree in commerce at Gujarat University, but dropped out after the second year. Adani was keen on business, but not his father's textile business.

- Gautam was born in a Gujarati Bania family with a business background as his father was into textile business.
- Since his childhood, he was not interested in academics and was a school as well as a university drop out.
- At the age of 18, he went to Mumbai and worked as a diamond sorter at Mahindra Brothers for two years over there.
- Later, after gaining some experience, he established his own diamond brokerage business at Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai, India.
- He then returned to Ahmedabad after his elder brother, Mahasukh Adani, asked him to help in setting his newly purchased plastic factory.
